The spring has come and gone, and we are about to enter into the hottest months of the summer. The extreme heat can be bothersome for people, but it can be detrimental to your lawn. At Nature’s Turf, our goal is to help you to enjoy a beautiful, green lawn all summer long! That is why our experts have come up with the following turf care tips for beating the heat:
- Fertilize regularly- When your lawn is well-fed, it will grow in thick. The thicker your turf is, the more it will be able to crowd out weeds and shade the soil from the sun.
- Mow your lawn high- Longer grass works to keep your lawn healthy in the heat in two different ways. The first way is by providing more shade for the soil, which will prevent it from drying out. The second way is by allowing the roots to grow longer. Longer roots will have more of a chance to reach the moisture that is deep within your soil.
- Water properly- This means that you need to water at the right time of the day and water the right amount. Water in the morning or in the evening when it is cool outside, this will cause less water to evaporate and more to soak into your soil. You should also water deeply and infrequently. Just as mowing higher encourages your roots to grow deeper, so does watering deeply.
